A Pessoa com Deficiência Intelectual e a Compreensão de sua Existência

Often people with intellectual disabilities (ID) are not recognised as capable of attributing meanings to their existence because they have an limitation. However, can understand various psychological issues in lives. Based on the Sartrian existential psychology, objective this study is investigate how person ID understands his/her existence, from attribute themselves and relationships. The phenomenological method was chosen for data collection analysis. Ten adults participated, students a Special School Curitiba. results showed feelings loneliness abandonment part participants, resulting absence affect dialogue others; anguish before freedom, context where allowed make authentic choices; difficulty understanding feelings, desire value emotions; school place find greatest opportunities relationships, but reflection everyday situations experience limited. It argued that these aspects must be considered studies services directed ID, so freedom recognized, enabling construction project.
